Leiva, Flor M.

Flor Leiva focuses her practice in the areas of products liability, premise liability, and general liability.

Flor began her legal career working at an insurance defense firm representing insurance carriers in first-party property suits. She then had the honor and pleasure of serving four years as a judicial law clerk at the Fifth District Court of Appeal, clerking for Judge F. Rand Wallis and Chief Judge James A. Edwards. Upon leaving the Fifth DCA, Flor came to work with us here at McDonald Toole Wiggins, where both Judge Wallis and Judge Edwards previously worked.

Flor received her undergraduate degree from Florida State University, and then went on to earn her law degree from Barry University School of Law. During law school, Flor competed in national Moot Court competitions and served on the Executive Board of Barry’s Moot Court program. She also worked as a legal assistant and law clerk while completing her studies.

In her free time, Flor enjoys yoga, outdoor activities, traveling, and exploring local farmer’s markets with her dog.

Liptak, John M., III

John is an Associate Attorney at McDonald Toole and Wiggins, PA whose practice focuses on general liability defense including product liability matters, motor vehicle accidents and trucking litigation. He earned his law degree from Stetson University College of Law and is admitted to practice in Florida. Throughout law school, John served as the Vice President of the Federalist society and was a member of the second amendment society. In addition, John worked as law clerk for the honorable Judge John E. Steele in the Middle District of Florida Fort Myers Division, and he was an intern for the United States Attorney’s Office of Tampa helping to prosecute both white collar crimes and drug traffickers. He then worked as a CLI for both the Tampa and Sarasota State Attorneys’ office where he gained courtroom experience.

Upon graduation, John worked for Florida’s largest Civil Defense firm defending some of the nation’s largest retail stores and insurance companies. John now serves as part of a team that is national counsel for a major truck servicing company and a major forklift manufacturer, including the defense of personal injury cases involving company vehicles.

Reid, Jeré D.

Jeré D. Reid was born in Brooklyn, New York and migrated to Central Florida as a teen. She graduated from Gateway High School in Kissimmee, Florida, received her bachelor’s degree in Social Science Education from the University of Central Florida, and earned her Juris Doctorate from Florida A&M University College of Law.

While in law school, Jeré served on the Student Board Association and completed a plethora of community driven initiatives in the Central Florida area.  After becoming a member of the Florida Bar, Jeré began to sharpen her legal skills as an Assistant Public Defender in Circuit 9.  As an Assistant Public Defender, Jeré gained substantial experience in prelitigation, negotiations, depositions, motion drafting, and trial practice.  Jeré is also a member of the Osceola Bar Association and serves as the association’s Public Information Officer.

When not in the office, Jeré enjoys spending time with her big, beautiful blended family, honing her graphic design skills, and volunteering her time to at-risk youth and disadvantaged populations throughout Central Florida.

 

Szafran, Cortney B.

Cortney’s fundamental curiosity and creativity drives her practice. She brings her passion for research, writing, and organization, as well as her analytical thinking to every case. She is always engaged and ready to take a hands-on approach. She currently handles matters related to product liability, premise liability and general personal injury defense for Fortune 500 companies.

Cortney grew up in Lake Mary before attending the University of South Florida, St. Petersburg, spending a semester abroad in Australia. She began her legal education at Vermont Law School, where she developed her legal aptitude and developed a great understanding of community and collaboration. Cortney completed her legal education at Stetson finishing in the top 5% of her graduation class.

Cortney’s interests include understanding the natural world’s interconnected systems, delving into the world of local seasonal food, cooking nutrition-forward meals, practicing yoga, kickboxing, and playing basketball. She sees food ats the great connector, linking us to ourselves, each other, the earth, everything; past, present, and future.
